Photography Travel - Europe

A Valencian Vacation

We’ve been to Spain alot. Probably more than any other country in Europe. Yet, we’ve never been to Valencia. Molly has always wanted to go to Valencia. The opportunity to photograph the City of Arts and Sciences was of particular interest to me. So we decided to spend a week in Valencia. We sandwiched our visit between stops in Naples and Porto. Friends from the UK that we met on a photography safari in Botswana accepted an invitation to join us for the week in Valencia. Roy not only has a similar interest in developing his photography skills, but suffers from a similar affliction. He is a recovering engineer. Judith and Molly get on quite well, and I think spend a fair amount of time sharing stories about the previously mentioned affliction. Together, we had a wonderful time exploring Valencia.

As I covered in my earlier post, about an hour before the Central Market in Valencia opens, the surrounding area starts to awaken. Prior to that, the streets around the historical district are quiet and mostly empty. My favorite time to photograph cities is during these early morning hours. The streets are quiet, a few city lights give a unique and moody perspective, and the blue sky of dawn can be quite dramatic. We often don’t have any other planned activities in the early morning, and Molly really doesn’t mind sleeping in abit. As such, I can take my time and wander. Besides the images which I previously posted from the Market, here are a few more from those early morning explorations.

In my previous post, I shared images from The City of Arts and Sciences. For me, working with Roy to capture those unique perspectives was the highlight of the trip. However, there was so much more to Valencia. Like any city in Spain, Valencia is full of interesting sites, amazing food, great wine, and a relaxed vibe. Below are some additional images taken during our stay.
