Southern African Safari

We’ve just arrived back from a 3+ week safari adventure throughout southern Africa, including visits to Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and for our second time to South Africa. It was worth the two-year COVID delay. Kristy at Icon Expeditions helped us create a memorable itinerary that delivered exactly what we were looking for. We met some great people, saw some amazing wildlife (sometimes wandering through camp at night), visited very isolated and beautiful landscapes, watched incredible sunsets, ate some wonderful food, and experienced tremendous hospitality throughout.

The first six nights of our trip were hosted by Pangolin Photo Safaris, including three nights on a houseboat on the Chobe river. It was perfect … and a great way to improve our photography skills in preparation for the rest of the trip. If you are interested in improving your photography, seeing wildlife, and having a really fun time with great people … you must seek them out.

The rest of our adventure included several nights in a tented camp, flights on tiny single engine planes using dirt runways, a couple ‘poop and track’ hikes, transportation by boats and canoes through the Okavango delta, a visit to Victoria Falls, along with some luxurious safari accommodations at both Matetsi River Lodge and Londolozi.

We generated thousands of images. As such, there is little need for much more commentary. The photographs best tell the story. I have posted a selection of images from the various countries, as well as some outstanding photographs that Molly created. You can find them all on my photography website … David Maki Photography.

The files are large and the website is getting some traffic, so things may load slowly. Thank-you for being patient. I hope you enjoy the images.
